Just about perfect but fixable

I've probably been riding with this hat for about 6 weeks now. It's the lightest hat I've owned or tried and I'm sporting a 3XL. I'm selling the 4 hats I have from my yellow/black CBR because they don't match the scheme of my new red/white/blue CBR, hence this purchase. I researched and tried on at least 15-20 different hats before settling here. If the XR1R Carbon matched better I probably would have bought that one. I tried the Schuberth, Arai, AFX, Joe Rocket, Akuma, Scorpion, Icon, Shoei, KBC, HJC, Bell and O'Neal hats. In the end I narrowed them down to the Nexx XR1R, Shoei RF1100, Schuberth S2 and Bell Star Carbon lines. Ultimately the Nexx offered the best bang for the buck and best color match for my bike (2012 CBR1000RR).Likes: Vents (best chin vent ever - never fogs, rear vents only noticeable when u don't have a head scarf on). Weight (light like a computer mouse). Paint (beautiful and bright colors). Fit (snug but comfortable). Noise (very comfortable w/o earplugs and vehicle cabin quiet with earplugs or headphones).Dislikes: Paint (arrived with a few bits of debris trapped under clear coat). Hat also could have used a couple more coats of clear even if it increases weight. D-Ring bar is too thin. It slides around in the strap when lacing up. Pull strap length is good but strap is too thin. It doesn't feel like it's strong enough to me. There are velcro fastening tabs that you're supposed to secure under chin prior to lacing the d-ring but it's not very comfortable (please lose this NEXX). Liner (liner is made of something different than what I'm used to. It dries fine but it seems to retain a wet fabric smell that my Bell Star and Shark RSX doesn't).All and all I would buy another NEXX helmet. If Nexx would fix these few things this would be the PERFECT helmet!

These helmets are so light , under 3 lbs and the fit and finish are first rate. I was very happy to find this otherwise discontinued helmet for a reasonable price.

top quality helmet with one fatal flaw

I also own the Nexx XR1R Carbon and the weight difference between these two is negligible--they are both incredibly light. They both seem very durable; everything about the XR1R is top notch. The paint job is immaculate, seams are sturdy, parts fit perfectly--you can tell this is a high quality helmet.There are a couple reasons I can't give them five stars, despite the fact that they are my most comfortable helmets. The biggest reason is the visor replacement system. To change out the visor, you have to unscrew a couple bolts on each side. Even though the bolts are such that anything could unscrew them (typically coins in my case), they are very inconvenient. The second reason is that the straps are too long and can't be fastened with a gloved hand, due to the placement of the closure.Even though this helmet weighs the same as the Carbon, the Carbon is more comfortable because it seems to have a better lining. Not sure if it is a difference between batches, or the fact that the Carbon is newer.For comparison, a Nexx S fits perfectly, a Shoei XS fits a little snugly and an HJC S fits a little loosely.

Best Helmet I've ever owned

Over the years I've owned most major helmet brands including Arai, Shoei and most recently an HJC carbon. All have been good but each having some drawback such as noise, fogging or comfort. The Nexx for me scores an "outstanding" on all criteria. It fits perfectly (I take an XL with an average, that is a slightly oval head shape), has low noise levels and when riding on 50 degree Seattle days, virtually no visor fogging, something no other helmet I've had could accomplish. It also has a wider field of view than most other helmets and it's best feature is it's so light it feels like you're not even wearing a lid. Bottom line, I've finally found my perfect helmet.

great helmet

This is a beauty of a helmet. I followed the size charts (measured my head per instructionn =22 inches) and ordered a large, however, in my opinion the helmet fits way too tight. I am not a big fan of full face helmets so I will make allowances for the discomfort level I have for all full face helmets. After I took out the stuffy ear pads, leaving in all the other pads (head and chin pads), the helmet feels really good. As advertized the helmet is very light weight and has great visibility. There is almost no buffeting at 90 mph and the noise level is much lower than the few other full face helmets I have owned. Relative to other full face helmets I have tried, this one deserves 5 stars for design, visibility, weight, quality of materials. The size issue is my only complaint but am satisfied with my own alterations to make it fit better without exchanging the large for an XL. The fact that I could take out unwanted parts is a plus. Note that these helmets are advertised in the pictures with a dark face shield. They are shipped with a clear shield. Unfortunately, the dark face shield option (40 dollars) is on back order and seems it might be a bit difficult to get. All in all, this is truly a fine piece of helmet workmanship. rating 4 1/2 stars ....5 plus stars had the ear pads fit and a dark face shield were readily available. I will write more once I have had the helmet longer.

Great helmet, but be careful of sizing!

This is a really beautiful, high quality helmet. The minute you pick it up you can feel that it's very light, although I weighed it on a pretty accurate digital scale right out of the box, and it weighed 1402 grams, rather than the 1200 grams claimed in the Amazon listing or the 1300 grams claimed on a tag attached to the helmet. That's still quite light. It also has a great visor opening - the biggest I've seen. The Cool Max liner is entirely and easily removable, and the quality of every part of the helmet is first-rate. The only problem is sizing. I've worn Arai helmets for years, always in a size XL. According to the NEXX sizing chart, an XL should fit perfectly, and so that's what I ordered. Well even after I removed the sizing pads, the helmet was way too tight, and I had to return it and order an XXL. Assuming that Amazon accepts the return for a full credit (they're terrific about that in my experience), it'll end up fine except for the inconvenience. But if you're ordering one of these I'd suggest that you order a size larger than you think you need. YMMV.

Great helmet

Coming from an Arai Vector, this helmet is a definite improvement. Better visibility, and the reduction in weight is substantial. It's too soon to tell how how the moving parts will hold up over time, but they seem fine. Comfort level is at least as good as the Arai. Minus one star for the inability to swap shields quickly. VERY IMPORTANT: The LARGE Nexx XR1R fits the same as my MEDIUM Arai Vector.

super light and good fit

I bought this to replace a Large Shoei helmet. The fit is tight, but good. I would recommend testing it at a retail store before hand if you are between sizes. The helmet is very well built and lives up to its promise of the lightest street full faced helmet. There are only few designs to choose from, and I like the white carbon one just fine. The helmet does not come with a dark visor, but you can order it from the mfg. Good helmet for long rides because it is much easier on my neck than the Shoei.

Great sportbike helmet

I'm a sportbike rider and a previous owner of a Shoei X11.The Nexx XR1R Carbon flows air as well as the X11, but is a bit noisier. The vents are easy to operate, the strap is a bit fiddly.It is lighter than the X11 and comfortable to wear. The materials inside are plush. It is stable in head and cross winds. I don't have experience with it at track speeds yet.The distinct aspect of this helmet is its large visor. This reduces weight and significantly enlarges the field of view. The downsides are that it flexes when pulled down with one finger, and it's harder to avoid gazing at the sun at dusk.Overall I think it's a worthy successor to the X11.

The quality of hand-stitched leather interior is very high quality and the quality of the helmet is wonderful, plus the design is very well finished on the surface.The helmet is very comfortable and fits perfectly. The wind flow mechanism and the windshield works perfectly.

I was planning to go for a Shoei RF1100 after a whole lot of research but ended up buying a Nexx XR1R (not that I'm a fan of Portugese). I must say this is an under rated helmet for sure, here are my initial observationsPros:It looks AWESOME on your head!Extremely light, with around 1200 gms this helmet feels so light on your headWind noise is managed very well, thanks to the aerodynamic design + the inflows makes it perform well on high speed.Compared to Shoei, Nexx has a great viewing port. It gives a great visibility and thanks to those wide portThe interiors are done well and the additional pads we get can help us do some custom fitting on our head (I do have a bit oval head and this feature really helps)Cons:Din't quite like the chin pad, I'm old school haaChanging shield needs a screwdriver :)A bit tight on the initial wear (but it got fine after few days of use)

great helmet for the money. Keeps out the weather and sound out pretty good. The large fits me much tighter than some of my other large helmets so keep in mind its on the smallerside. Ilike the nice tight fit though. Has some hi viz without being abnoxious.

Nexx...t please

I purchased this helmet because I was taken back by its design and exterior workmanship. No one would argue there's something almost Steam Punk about it. Here's the issue. The interior of the helmet is poorly padded and you can see the white styrophome thoughout. I picked up the helmet and dented the styrophome. Ughhhh, I think it runs small as well. I cannot recommend this helmet and if someone offered me 175 for it I'd sell it. Three stars on design style alone.
